Pokemon Flowers August 25 2016
I've been playing a lot of Pokemon Go since it released in Canada. How about you?
My husband and I have been taking long walks and extra detours to get to Pokestops and we've actually discovered beautiful parks and areas around us that we never noticed!
Whether you play Pokemon Go or not, it's fun to take some time out of our busy days to stop and admire our surroundings. And don't forget to smell the flowers!
I wish I could catch this flower ϞϞ(๑⚈ ․̫ ⚈๑)
The most adorable wedding of all weddings July 04 2016
This Canada Day, we drove to the beautiful Domaine Bouchard Champagne in Saint-Basile-le-Grand to set up the most adorable wedding of all time!
K & D's rustic wedding focused on succulents in lieu of flowers and we are so happy with the results! The deep red accents were perfect to highlight the festive holiday and contrast all the varieties of green from the succulents.
The bridal bouquet made of mixed succulents, hand tied with a trailing crimson red ribbon. I chose a few succulents that had a redish hue on their leaves to coordinate with the ribbon.
Even the flower girl got to have some succulents on her petal basket! A few plants were wired to her basket and held in place by a red satin bow.
Red rose boutonnieres for family members. Succulent boutonnieres from the groom, his groomsmen and the little ring bearers.
A vintage style wood marquee letter used as a table number paired with succulent terrariums over burlap and lace table runners.
The centerpiece was a mix of rustic elements that wedding guests could share and take home at the end of the evening.
Spotlight on local flowers June 15 2016
One of the best parts of spring and summer in Canada is the beautiful blossoms it brings with the warm weather! Shopping from local farms is very important to us at Les Fleurs par Pierre and we always purchase Canadian flowers when available.
Here are some of my favorites that you can usually find in our fridges.
Peonies are almost every girl's favorite flower. These huge blooms have so many petals in a fluffy delicate texture and the smell just brings a smile to your face! I've never heard of anyone who didn't love peonies.
These flower favorites are available locally in June and July, making them perfect for weddings or to pick up as a hostess gift to bring to a BBQ!
I think Canada's most famous locally grown flower is the gerbera. It's bright colors and big welcoming petals just feel so Canadian! We get our gerberas from a wonderful farm in Ontario year round.
There are so many colors, color combinations and even cross overs with pom poms, making the gerberas very versatile and mix well with other flowers in your bouquets.
I like to add a green straw on the gerbera stem to keep them tall and straight but you can remove it once at home if your vase is narrow enough to support the flower.
I think snapdragons have the coolest name of all the flowers. Despite its tough name, snapdragons look very delicate and dainty. It is a lengthy flower that blooms from the bottom and goes upwards. Usually the buds at the top never open, but I think it's for the best because the texture of closed buds give a nice touch of green. Doesn't it make you want to touch it?
I love snapdragons in pairs or more together in a bouquet.
Lisianthus is my favourite supporting characters in a bouquet. Alone, lisianthus looks a bit strange, curving in all directions but within an arrangement, this flower really adds whimsical texture and movement.
It's so fun to watch lisianthus bloom. As you can see on the photo I took, only one flower is pink. Slowly but surely, the two flowers on either side of it will turn pink and bloom just like their sister. The top tiniest buds usually do not open but they still look pretty!
Unfortunately, local tulip season is soon drawing to an end. I'm going to miss these inexpensive flowers! On their own, tulips can make great bouquets or mixed with other flowers, they are a nice blooming surprise.
Tulips are actually one of the few flowers that keep growing after they are cut.
My favourite tulips are double tulips. As you can see in my photo, there are several layers of petals ready to bloom. We usually see tulips with only one layer and they open like a cup, where you can see directly inside. Double tulips open up all their petals and become exotic beauties. You wouldn't believe they are grown in our own backyards!
Remember the impact you are making when you shop locally. Although we can't always buy from Canadian farms (flowers, fruits, vegetables, dairy products) due to availability and seasonality, we can always do our best to support local businesses when possible.
Canada Day is coming up soon so don't forget to celebrate with a few great products from our beautiful country!

Passover - Friday April 22nd! April 15 2016
Happy Easter! March 24 2016
Happy Easter weekend! What do you think of our bountiful spring arrangement? It's really starting to look (and smell!) like spring.
If you've been by the shop or following us on Instagram, you might have noticed that I've created a lot more vintage and garden style bouquets lately. I absolutely love this floral trend!
The garden style uses flowers that aren't perfectly straight, that have slight curves and movements to their stems. They are whimsical and make floral arrangements look like they are picked straight out of the garden. Flowers come from nature and I hope you enjoy bringing a piece of the outside, inside your home.
So whether you celebrate Easter or just eat the chocolates, come stop by our little shop to pick up a lovely bouquet. We will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and closed on Monday (we have to take time off to eat our chocolate too!)
Why send roses? February 18 2016
Over Valentine's day week, a few new faces popped up at our shop to pick up some flowers for their valentine. Of course, we love having new customers! Unfortunately, a few of the men were a bit apprehensive about the thought of spending a good amount of money for a dozen of long stem red roses. And they should be! Red roses have dramatically increased in price this year for Valentine's Day, due to our plummeting Canadian dollar (yep, roses are imported). But I'll let you in on great news: women love receiving flowers, not just red roses.
And get her flowers on other days than Valentine's Day! She'll appreciate it just as much.
Valentine's Day Week February 08 2016
We're busy bees this week at the shop. Not only is it Valentine's Day this weekend, but today is Chinese New Year (yay monkeys!) and this week is also Teacher's Appreciation week. So drop by anytime to pick out beautiful flowers and gifts for friends, family and teachers.
Our shop's window got a complete overhaul last weekend and we added a lot of romance with tulle curtains and giant roses! Stop by the flower shop at 5420 Queen Mary to check it out :)
Don't forget to get ahead on your romantic week and send flowers to your Valentine on Thursday or Friday at their work place to enjoy. Valentine's Day romance isn't only for Sunday!

Wedding Season continued... July 21 2015
We're already half way through wedding season and there are still many more weddings to go! We are fully booked for the summer but fall and winter brides, please contact us through our website to book a consultation.
From left to right, top to bottom:
1. Blue and white cascading bouquet. A few brides have been coming in and asking for blue flowers and this bouquet really packs in the vibrant and flashy color! The white roses and baby's breath add a little softness and more traditional look to the bright blue dendrobium orchids.
2. This large, large bouquet was especially requested by a peony fan! The peach, pink and white colors are gently mixed together. Unfortunately, peonies are done for the season. Sniff sniff... so many August brides are upset that they can't have this beautiful bloom.
3. Maid of honor and bridal bouquets packed in a box and ready to go! If you are on a budget, a mix of roses and carnations can go a long way, especially with our unique colors.
4. That's me! After setting up a wedding, I have a few extra minutes to snap a few photos hehehe!
Follow us on Instagram for more of our arrangements!

What's in the price of flowers April 29 2015
I had a customer last week who bought a dozen roses and was so happy to hear the price. The last time he came in to buy flowers was at Valentine's Day, where the price of red roses are marked up by 50%. So I told him the long story short version of this blog post: wholesalers double the price of the red rose during V-Day and flower shops have no choice but to increase our own prices to make a profit.
But let me explain the long version of what's in the price ;)
The everyday prices of flowers depend on a lot of factors. Before they even arrive at Les Fleurs par Pierre, farmers look at whether certain flowers are in season, the country of origin, the county of arrival, transportation. Unfortunately, Quebec is a very small consumer of flowers (tsk, tsk!) compared to Toronto, New York... And countries like Japan and Thailand are willing to spend more money per flower, which is why farms prefer to sell the majority of their flowers to big buyers, leaving a higher price for the smaller buyers like Canada.
During holidays, farmers, wholesalers and florists hire additional labor for harvest to process and pack five times the normal volume of roses. This increases the cost to supply the demand of red roses.
During Valentine's Day, a single rose costs $45 in Thailand.
Not all flowers were created equal. A rose is a rose, but there are different varieties! The length of stem is the most common way of distinguishing the value of a rose. The longer the stem, the longer the farmer has kept the rose growing. Which means the 70cm rose takes more time to grow before it's cut but the bud will be large and more beautiful than a 40cm rose. Since the longer rose takes more time and resources to grow, it's only fair to charge more.
When the flowers finally arrive at our shop, I open the packs, cut the stems, remove the leaves and place the flowers in floral preservative and then into the fridge they go. When a happy customer comes in to buy them, the flowers are wrapped in cellophane, wax tissue, ribbon, water pack and given an extra pack of floral preservative. We take into account the cost of accessories used, the labor needed, rent, electricity and a few cents for my pocket :) After all that, the beautiful rose costs $4.
What about wedding flowers? Most florists mark up the price of flowers by a bit to cover additional labor costs, since making wedding bouquets, boutonnieres and elaborate centerpieces are more complicated to create and take more time.
This is just a general overview of what goes into the price of a flower, but I hope it helps you understand the 3-4 day process it takes to get the flower from a farm in Holland all the way to our little shop in Montreal.

Our favorite picks from Passover & Easter Weekend April 08 2015
I hope you all had a great holiday weekend filled with love and good food, surrounded by friends, family and flowers!
I managed to snap a few photos of Les Fleurs par Pierre's pieces before they left the store and into your loving homes for the holidays. Here's some of my favorites:
This set is my absolute favorite! The client requested something completely original and absolutely cute and modern. This gift box was just the perfect amount of whimsical that family members of all ages could enjoy. I just love that little yellow ribbon :)
This tall arrangement was cut short in its vase to make way for rustic curly willow. I love the almost white pink tulips and were so perfectly straight.
This piece of calla lilies and cymbidium orchids is very simple but I find the lines of the callas emerge elegantly from the curved silver vase very feminine and delicate. Wouldn't this look great on a side table in the living room?
This all blue piece is so flashy! I love it because it's so different.
Did you all have a great Passover and Easter weekend? xoxo

How to keep your flowers fresh longer September 10 2014
I always get asked by customers how to extend the life of their fresh cut flowers so I thought I'd share some of my tips with you on the blog!
- Use lukewarm water in your vase. The temperature of the lukewarm water will go up the stems to the flower's bulb faster than cold water, nourishing the actual flower.
- I always add a pack of Flower Food powder in my bouquets and add the powder directly in my vase arrangements. Flower Food slows down bacteria from forming in the water. It's always best to keep changing the water regularly to provide clean water to the flowers.
- Every time you change the water of your flowers, be sure to cut the bottom of the stems at a 45 degree angle. This slanted cut gives the stem more surface to drink from.
- Remove any leaves that touch the water of your vase. Leaves under water create bacteria, which pollutes the flower's drinking water.
Using these tips will help the flowers live a few extra days for you to enjoy!
